Successful energy audit at EFCO

This year, EFCO Maschinenbau GmbH carried out an energy audit following DIN ISO 16247-1 for the first time. Through this voluntary measure, the company identified energy-saving potentials and documented initial accomplishments.

The so-called Energy Services Act has implemented the Energy Efficiency Directive of the European Parliament (Directive 2012/27/EU) in Germany since 2015. In addition to positive effects in terms of climate change, the goals of this directive include reducing energy costs and reducing the necessity of energy imports through savings in consumption.

Since 2015, companies with 250 employees and more are obliged to carry out regular energy audits. EFCO is an SME (small and medium-sized enterprise) in the EU sense and, therefore, not bound to this obligation. “As an ISO 9001:2015 certified company, we at EFCO put great emphasis on the sustainable development of our corporate processes for many years,” explains Managing Director Martina Effenberger. “For us, this also includes looking at energy efficiency and finding out where we can do better.” Spiralling energy costs and an increasingly uncertain supply situation encouraged the company further to explore options for optimization.

In addition to impulses for future investments in energy efficiency, EFCO was also able to identify points to reduce energy consumption in the short term and further improve the energy balance. “Today, we are already above-average energy efficient for our sector,” reports Martina Effenberger. "As a company, we want to maintain this trend."
